Hall
Current Sensors – Closed Loop
The Hall Current sensors measure the
magnetic field surrounding the conductor (also sensing DC currents).
A circular core of soft magnetic material is placed around the
conductor to concentrate the field. The Hall element, which is
placed in a small air gap, delivers a voltage that is proportional
to the measured current.
Closed-loop Hall sensors are more accurate than Open Loop Current
Sensors. The Hall voltage is first significantly amplified, and the
amplifier’s output current then flows through a compensation
circular path on the magnetic core. It generates a counter
magnetization whose amplitude is equal in opposite direction to that
of the primary current conductor. As a result the magnetic flux in
the core is compensated to zero.
